For this type of construction, it is essential to incorporate both a crushed stone base and a solid concrete footing with rebar and concrete wire. It will not last long without it. That said, there are just as many styles and stones to choose from as in a dry laid patio or walkway. This is a better option where cleanliness and formality are of concern. Stones are bonded to the concrete pad and then grouted with mortar. Slope is also more important on this type of construction. As a mosaic pattern, the stones can be set with their natural edges or they can be sawn cut for linear edges. Square and rectangular shaped stones can all be the same size or set in a random pattern. Stones can be smooth or textured and there are a myriad of color choices. Enjoy the photos below!
